Basic Checklist To Minimize Lost Business During Your Move

Blog

It is well understood in the business world that time is money. This becomes readily apparent when you are facing a business move. Moving a company is time consuming and inevitably leads to lost productivity. For a period of time, the materials you need to do business will be out of your hands as they are transferred from the old location to the new. However, you can minimize this down time through proper preparation.

Organization Checklist for Corporate Relocation

Every corporate moving service will have its particular method for relocating your company, but the overall goal remains the same – get your company from point A to point B with as little disruption as possible. You can help the movers accomplish this goal by taking care of the following:

  • Set a time frame – Communicating your desired time frame is important for both you and the movers. While it is impossible to control all the variables in your move, having a discussion with the movers on what you want to happen – your desired moving time and duration of the move – will give both of you an opportunity to negotiate. You may not be able to get exactly what you want, but you can probably get close to it.

  • List all relevant tasks – There are a ton of things that go into a move – organizing supplies and equipment, packing, shutting down current utilities and services, setting up services at the new location, mapping out where things will go in the new building, etc. Write it all out, make copies and ensure that everyone is on the same page.

  • Delegate – You cannot handle all of the packing and organizing yourself. Depending on the size of the company, you may not even be able to handle all of the planning. Once you decide to make the move, assign duties as necessary to ensure that no single person is overwhelmed. If you have the staff, appoint a manager for the operation and have him or her keep you updated on the progress.

  • Create a map for the new office – The movers get paid more the longer they work for you. If you want to save money, have the destination of all boxes and equipment mapped out ahead of time. Have an employee at the new location direct the movers on where to place these things.

  • Notify customers – If there is even a chance of disruption of current business commitments, notify customers of the move ahead of time. Contact a company like Bekins Van Lines Inc for more information.
